Five things we have learned
The SEC regular season is half over and we’ve learned a lot.
Some teams have impressed, some not. Some have lived up to expectations and, well, some haven’t.
Here are five things we have learned so far this season:
1. Florida quarterback Tim Tebow is human. After taking a brutal hit against Kentucky that resulted in a severe concussion, “Superman” looked mortal against LSU.
2. Alabama is the real deal. The Crimson Tide had high expectations coming into the season and haven’t disappointed. Bama has dismantled everyone in its path and seems to be the most complete team in the SEC — maybe the country.
3. Ole Miss is this year’s Georgia. Ole Miss, like Georgia last year, was highly touted and ranked in the top 10 in everyone’s preseason poll. The Rebels were supposed to be the team to challenge Alabama for the SEC West. That hasn’t happed. The Jevan Snead of last season hasn’t shown up yet and doesn’t look like he will any time soon.
4. New Auburn coach Gene Chizik has pulled ahead of Tennessee new coach Lane Kiffin and Mississippi State new coach Dan Mullen. The Tigers got off to a blistering 5-0 start before being creamed by Arkansas. Kiffin has held his own and Mullen is starting to learn that winning at MSU is hard to do, although the Bulldogs are showing signs of life if they could only hang on to the ball.
5. Georgia coach Mark Richt may need to start looking for life after football. The Georgia Bulldogs were slaughtered by the Volunteers. The offense looked anemic, the defense was atrocious and all of that could spell the end for Richt. The only question is, “Who do get to replace him?”
